Thanks to those of you who posted with your favorite books. It was fun to read through your responses to see how we are all motivated so differently with literature. I have a new question for you.....
How many of you like to read a novel, and when the movie comes out, go and see the movie? While watching the movie do you search for comparisons as well as deviations from the storyline?
Example: Into the Wild
The book is very accurate with the true events that it is based on, and the movie actually did a great job of sticking to the story.
This is something that I love to do with my classes after we complete a novel. It really is a treat for the students. It seems in most cases the book is always better.
Do you have any examples?
I do that all the time! The twilight series is one I did that with. The movies follow the books very closely in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI like to compare books with movies with my students, as well. My favorite book to read and compare with my 3rd graders is The BFG by Roald Dahl. The students love the book but are able to find many contrasts between it and the movie. It is a great lesson on compare and contrast and one that the students really enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI just saw the last and final Harry Potter and was satisfied throughout. For some reason, the movies are just as good as the books; that is remarkable!
ReplyDeleteThanks all for your comments. You named some really great books. I don't think that you have to be an "english person" to enjoy reading. Pam thanks for your insight. I can't believe that Harry Potter is over, and yes it is going to be weird to not have the current generation wrapped up in the Harry Potter World. I did not read every book, but I thought that the directors of the movie did a pretty good job of keeping the audience informed with details.
ReplyDeleteSandi,
I also love to have my students compare books with the movie version. I think that it is so important for them to see and hear the difference when those literary devices are used by authors that seem to be missing in the movie. They are always so shocked when it just is not quite the same story.
Harry Potter: I was so frustrated with Harry Potter:The Half Blood Prince the movie and the way that it ended that I went out the next day an bought the Deathly Hallows. I read it in a couple of day and realized what I was missing out on. The book was amazing. I just recently watched the last movie and to my surprise..... many differences...... book is much better. I love books combined with my imagination.
